The City of Chula Vista and Seven Mile Casino have partnered on a new public awareness campaign to educate the public about COVID-19 and how to prevent its spread. The “Flatten the Curve” campaign, was initially funded with a $50,000 media buy sponsored by Seven Mile Casino. The City of Chula Vista also purchased a $25,000 Spanish-language media buy to help inform the public about the health crisis emergency. In total the donated and purchased media have grown to more than $340,000 in value thanks to local businesses and media partners coming together to join the effort.
While efforts to flatten the curve are beginning to show results, Chula Vista and South County communities continue to record a higher number of positive cases relative to the rest of the County. The Flatten the Curve campaign grew out of a shared commitment by the City, Seven Mile Casino and media partners to do everything possible to keep the local community well-informed during these unprecedented times.
“We are proud to serve a community with such committed local businesses and are thankful for the generosity of Seven Mile Casino, radio and TV stations, billboard companies and media partners who have donated their time and resources to help address this urgent need in our City,” said Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas Salas. “We are all in this together, and we will all get out of this together.”
Some of the region’s top radio stations joined the Flatten the Curve campaign, including Z90, Magic 92.5, Channel 933, Jammin 95.7 and The Fan 97.3. Entercom Communications and iHeart Radio also donated time and resources to run hundreds of Public Service Announcements across their San Diego stations in May to ensure the message reaches the communities that have been hit the hardest. Outfront Media and Clear Channel are participating through the use of their outdoor billboards. Media partners KSDY, Univision, Uniradio, Telemundo 20, Energy Communications and Radio Latina also are participating to engage with Spanish-speaking residents.
Like other local businesses, Seven Mile Casino has been hit hard by the crisis, shutting down its operations, suffering a severe loss of revenues and furloughing several employees, but it was quick to step up when it learned help was needed to protect the local community.
“Seven Mile Casino and our employees have been directly impacted by this crisis, and we know how it has affected our community,” Seven Mile Casino Owner Ryan Stone said. “We pledged to support the people of Chula Vista long before we opened our doors. When we saw our community being disproportionately impacted, we knew we had to help.”
