The Cisco 2811 is an integrated services router. It uses AC power, uses Cisco’s IOS IP base software, and has two PVDM slots. It provides Web routing for mostly small and medium businesses.
The device is one of the devices in the company’s state-of-the art 2800 integrated service router series. As such, it is part of Cisco’s entire integrated services router lineup which includes several other series, each series designed with a target buyer in mind.

A side-by-side comparison with previous routers manufactured by Cisco shows that the 2811 provides five times the performance and ten times the security that previous models had. Density and slot performance were boosted from previous designs.
It offers wire speed performance to allow services, such as voice and security, to run concurrently. Better modularity and performance allowed the device to provide better service to businesses and organizations.
Cisco 2800 Series Integrated Services Routers Quick Start Guide
Four slots for high-speed WAN interface provide more density. The Cisco 2811 router has a slot for an enhanced network module. It supports 90 modules, as well as most NMs, VWICs, WICs, AIMs, and VICs. Two fast Ethernet ports (10/100) are integrated in the device. Options include switching support for Layer 2 with PoE.
In addition to intrusion prevention, the device’s security features include NAC-enabled support for antivirus defense and Cisco’s IOS firewall support.
Cisco 2800 Series Integrated Services Routers Data Sheet
The Cisco 2811 router provides support for digital and analog voice calls and support for voicemail. Optional features include support for Cisco’s CallManager Express, which allows processing of local calls for 36 IP phones for stand-alone businesses. For branch offices, the router offers remote site support for local calls, also for 36 phones.
In 2007, the router won one of InfoWorld’s awards for Technology of the Year.
Cisco 2911 Pvdm Slots 777
Cisco ceased selling the Cisco 2811 router on November 1, 2011. The company will end its support of the device on November 20, 2018. Cisco encourages owners of the router to migrate to the 2911 model. The company offers a technology migration program in which customers can trade in certain products, receiving credit towards their purchase of new equipment.
